About This Journey

Introduction

We invite you to experience an exceptional 13-day journey through some of East Africa’s most celebrated wildlife destinations. This seamless luxury safari combines Kenya and Tanzania, connecting each destination by air to maximize your time in the wilderness.

Our adventure begins in Nairobi before flying into Amboseli National Park, where elephants roam beneath the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro. We then continue to the wildlife-rich Loisaba Conservancy in Laikipia, followed by the legendary Masai Mara National Reserve.

From Kenya, we fly into Tanzania and explore the vast plains of the Serengeti National Park, before continuing to Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater. The journey concludes in Arusha.

We travel between destinations using comfortable aircraft, reducing lengthy road transfers and allowing more time for wildlife experiences. Professional guides and specially equipped safari vehicles accompany us throughout the journey, helping us make the most of every destination.

After each day of exploration, we return to carefully selected luxury lodges and tented camps in remarkable wilderness settings. The accommodation combines comfort, character and a strong connection with the surrounding landscape.

This itinerary also works well for couples and families. Family accommodation options and child-friendly experiences are available at the properties, with facilities such as children’s menus, babysitting during meals and activities designed to keep younger travelers engaged.

Elewana Tortilis Camp, Amboseli

Positioned near Amboseli National Park, Tortilis Camp provides spectacular views towards Mount Kilimanjaro. The camp sits within the semi-arid landscape, creating an impressive setting for experiencing Amboseli’s wildlife.

Its approach combines comfortable accommodation with environmentally conscious tourism, allowing us to enjoy the wilderness while maintaining a light footprint.

Loisaba Tented Camp, Laikipia

Loisaba Tented Camp offers a flexible and adventurous experience within the Laikipia landscape. We can choose from a variety of activities depending on our interests.

Options include guided bush walks with Samburu guides, camel excursions, horseback riding, mountain biking, rafting and 4×4 exploration through the property’s rugged river valleys and canyons.

Sand River Masai Mara Camp

Located in a secluded part of the Masai Mara National Reserve, Sand River Camp offers an intimate safari setting surrounded by classic African wilderness.

The camp combines traditional safari character with comfortable tented accommodation. Its position beside the Sand River also places us close to wildlife and the route followed by the annual Great Migration.

Elewana Serengeti Pioneer Camp

Located in the south-central Serengeti near the Moru Kopjes, Serengeti Pioneer Camp provides convenient access to wildlife areas and seasonal migration routes.

The surrounding landscape offers sweeping views towards the Moru Kopjes, Lake Magadi and the expansive Serengeti plains, with opportunities to search for the Big Five.

Elewana Serengeti Migration Camp

Situated close to the Grumeti River, this camp offers an authentic tented safari atmosphere within the Serengeti wilderness.

The surrounding river system supports resident hippos, while the wider area provides excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing in a landscape that remains largely untouched.

 

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi

We begin our East African adventure in Nairobi, Kenya.

After arrival, we settle into our accommodation at Hemingways Nairobi, an elegant all-suite property positioned between Nairobi National Park and the Ngong Hills.

The peaceful plantation-style setting provides a comfortable introduction to the safari ahead. With butler service, a gourmet restaurant, brasserie and bar, the hotel offers a relaxing environment away from the activity of central Nairobi.

Depending on our interests and schedule, the location also provides access to Nairobi National Park and the wider capital.

Day 2: Nairobi to Amboseli National Park
After breakfast and our safari briefing, we transfer to Wilson Airport to begin our fly-in safari.
We take to the air and fly towards Amboseli National Park, one of Kenya’s best-known wildlife areas.
Amboseli is particularly famous for its large elephant population and spectacular views of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest free-standing mountain.
Although the park itself covers approximately 392 square kilometres, it forms part of the much larger Amboseli ecosystem extending between Kenya and Tanzania.
Its wetlands provide an important source of water within an otherwise dry landscape. These habitats attract a remarkable variety of wildlife and birdlife.
During our time here, we may encounter elephants, buffalo, impala, hyenas, giraffes, zebras, gazelles and wildebeest, alongside predators such as lions and cheetahs. The area also supports an impressive diversity of bird species.

Day 3: Exploring Amboseli National Park
We begin today with an early morning game drive, setting out at around 5:00 am when wildlife activity can be particularly rewarding.
The early hours may provide opportunities to see predators returning from their nocturnal hunts. Dawn also creates excellent photographic conditions, with soft morning light illuminating the savannah and Mount Kilimanjaro often visible when cloud conditions are favourable.
After our morning wildlife drive, we enjoy a bush breakfast surrounded by the Amboseli landscape.
We then have time to relax at camp. We can swim, enjoy a massage or simply settle down with a book before lunch.
Later, we experience the bush from a different perspective on a walking safari with local guides. Walking allows us to concentrate on details that can easily be missed from a vehicle, including animal tracks, plants, herbs, insects and smaller elements of the ecosystem.
We end the day with a private dinner beneath the African night Fly.
Day 4: Amboseli to Loisaba Conservancy, Laikipia
We begin the day with one final game drive in Amboseli, giving us another opportunity to encounter the park’s wildlife before departure.
We then transfer to the airstrip for our flight to Loisaba Conservancy in Laikipia.
Laikipia is an important conservation landscape where wildlife populations have been increasing. The area supports an impressive variety of animals, ranging from members of the Big Five to endangered Grevy’s zebra.
After arriving at Loisaba, we settle into the conservancy and begin experiencing its distinctive wilderness.

Day 5: Exploring Loisaba Conservancy
Today gives us the freedom to experience Loisaba in several different ways.
We can set out on a guided bush walk with a Samburu guide, explore the conservancy on horseback or take a camel excursion through the wilderness.
These activities can be followed by breakfast in the bush and time to relax with a rejuvenating spa treatment.
After lunch, we head out for an afternoon game drive. Loisaba is an important movement area for elephants within the wider Laikipia ecosystem, offering strong wildlife-viewing opportunities.
Beyond the more familiar safari species, we may also encounter animals such as greater kudu and Beisa oryx.
For an especially memorable evening, we can choose to stay at the nearby Loisaba Star Beds, where a four-poster bed can be positioned outside on the verandah. From there, we can spend the night beneath the expansive African Fly and enjoy an unobstructed view of the stars.
Day 6: Loisaba Conservancy to Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast, we enjoy a game drive as we make our way towards the Loisaba airstrip.
From here, we take our flight to the world-famous Masai Mara National Reserve.
The game drive from the airstrip to our camp effectively becomes our first safari experience in the Mara. The reserve’s wildlife-rich plains can produce exciting sightings even before we reach camp.
We stay in the southern part of the reserve at Sand River Masai Mara Camp, a secluded property surrounded by classic Mara scenery.
Later, we head out for an afternoon game drive. The acacia-dotted plains support abundant wildlife, giving us opportunities to search for lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, giraffe and elephant, as well as an impressive variety of birds.
We finish the day with a traditional sundowner, raising a glass as the African landscape changes under the evening light.
Day 7: Full-Day Masai Mara Safari
After breakfast, we set off with a packed picnic lunch for a full day exploring the Masai Mara.
Spending the entire day in the reserve allows us to venture farther and spend more time in areas where wildlife activity is especially rewarding.
The Mara is renowned for its exceptional wildlife diversity throughout the year. During the appropriate season, the landscape also becomes part of the spectacular Great Migration, when huge numbers of wildebeest, zebra and gazelles move between the Serengeti and Mara ecosystems.
Even outside migration periods, the resident wildlife makes the reserve a rewarding destination. We can search for the Big Five, predators and the many bird species found across the Mara.
In the evening, we return to camp for a farewell dinner beneath the stars.
Days 8–10: Masai Mara to Serengeti National Park
We enjoy breakfast before returning to the airstrip for our onward flight into Tanzania.
Our journey continues by air, allowing us to arrive in the sweeping landscapes of the Serengeti National Park in time for lunch.
After settling into our chosen camp, we begin exploring the surrounding wilderness on game drives.
The Serengeti offers a remarkable combination of resident wildlife and seasonal migration activity. When the Great Migration passes through the region, the spectacle becomes particularly dramatic, with vast herds moving across the plains and negotiating natural obstacles such as the Grumeti River.
Our first afternoon game drive introduces us to the Serengeti environment and its extraordinary wildlife.
We spend three nights in comfortable tented accommodation, giving us time to experience the Serengeti’s landscapes, wildlife and seasonal movements at a relaxed pace.

Day 11: Serengeti to Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater
We begin the day with a final opportunity to enjoy the sights and atmosphere of the Serengeti as we make our way towards the airstrip.
We then fly towards Lake Manyara, a compact but remarkably diverse wildlife area.
Our game drive takes us through different habitats where we may encounter bushbuck and Blue monkeys in forested areas, tree-climbing lions among the acacias, cheetahs hunting across the grasslands and hippos in the wetlands.
We stop for a picnic beside the water before continuing into the highlands towards the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
Our destination is The Manor, where we settle in for the evening.

Day 12: Ngorongoro Crater
After an early breakfast, we set out for a full-day exploration of the remarkable Ngorongoro Crater.
The crater measures more than 20 kilometres across and reaches approximately 600 metres in depth. This ancient volcanic caldera creates a dramatic natural setting for an extraordinary concentration of wildlife.
The crater floor contains grasslands, acacia woodland, riverine forest and lakes, supporting thousands of animals within a relatively compact area.
During our game drive, we search for a wide range of species, including lions, elephants, buffalo, cheetahs, servals, hyenas, jackals and black rhinos.
One special feature of our stay is the opportunity for a private bush lunch in a designated part of the crater, subject to the accommodation’s arrangements and permissions. This allows us to enjoy lunch within the crater while remaining immersed in its spectacular surroundings.
After a full day of wildlife exploration, we return to The Manor for dinner and relaxation.
Day 13: Ngorongoro to Manyara, Arusha and Kilimanjaro
After breakfast at The Manor, we transfer to the airstrip for our flight towards Arusha.
Upon arrival, we transfer to Arusha Coffee Lodge, where we can spend the afternoon before our onward departure. Depending on the timing of our international flight, a day room may be available for use.
Later, we transfer to Kilimanjaro International Airport for our outbound flight.
This brings our East African luxury fly-in safari to an end.
