The Complete 4-Day Itinerary
Driving time: approximately 5 hours 30 minutes
We leave Nairobi early in the morning and travel toward the Maasai Mara National Reserve.
The Mara remains one of the remarkable places where large numbers of wild animals continue to inhabit extensive natural landscapes. As the northern extension of the greater Serengeti ecosystem, it is particularly famous for the seasonal movement of thousands of wildebeest and zebras, together with the predators that follow them.
We arrive around lunchtime and settle in before heading out for our first afternoon game drive.
As we explore the reserve, we begin searching for its resident wildlife and predators while enjoying the changing scenery of the Mara plains.
Optional Maasai Mara Experiences
We can add extra experiences to your safari, depending on your interests:
- Hot-air balloon safari
- Maasai village visit
Dinner and overnight: Campsite or lodge.
After breakfast, we spend the entire day exploring the Maasai Mara National Reserve on a game drive. A packed lunch is provided, allowing us to remain in the reserve throughout the day.
The Mara is well known for its black-maned lions and abundant resident wildlife. It is also one of the places where we can have an excellent opportunity to encounter the Big Five, potentially during a single morning of game viewing.
Cheetahs are another notable attraction. Some have become accustomed to safari vehicles and may use their shade to escape the heat. Occasionally, individuals may climb onto vehicles to gain a better view while watching potential prey.
The Mara is also highly rewarding for bird enthusiasts. Nearly 500 bird species have been recorded, including approximately 16 eagle species, numerous hawks and falcons, six types of vultures, eight stork species, four bustards and nine sunbird species.
The Kori bustard, recognized as the world’s heaviest flying bird, is among the notable species we may encounter.
Dinner and overnight: Campsite or lodge.
Driving time: approximately 6 hours
We depart the Maasai Mara early in the morning and travel toward Lake Nakuru National Park, continuing through Kenya’s Rift Valley landscapes.
Lake Nakuru is internationally recognized for its flamingos and distinctive alkaline waters. The lake has long been associated with spectacular concentrations of flamingos, which can sometimes gather along the shoreline in enormous numbers.
The park is also an important rhino sanctuary, supporting populations of both black and white rhinos.
After arriving around lunchtime, we check into our accommodation before heading out for an afternoon game drive.
During our exploration, we look for rhinos, flamingos and other wildlife inhabiting the park while enjoying the scenery around Lake Nakuru.
Dinner and overnight: Campsite or lodge.
Driving time: approximately 4 hours
We begin the final day with a morning game drive in Lake Nakuru National Park.
This final safari gives us another opportunity to search for wildlife before leaving the park later in the morning.
We then start our journey toward Nairobi, with lunch taken en route. We expect to reach the capital at approximately 4:00 PM.
Our Taste of Kenya Safari ends upon arrival in Nairobi.
